Call for Proposals and/or Facilitators -
2018 AME Leadership Institute
"Bringing Industry Authenticity into the AME Classroom"
Call for Proposals
Information: 2018 AME Leadership Institute
Call for Breakout Session Proposals
Call for Breakout Session Proposals Closes December 8, 2017.
Presenters will be notified of status December 11-15, 2017.
Institute Organization: The 2018 AME Leadership Institute will be organized around thematic strands that have been identified through a review of Industry sector needs, 2017 attendee input on Institute evaluation forms, and input from the 2017 AME Statewide Industry Advisory meeting. Proposals must align with the strand description and expected outcomes.
Engaging with Pathway Technology (75 minutes)
Many 2017 institute attendees requested an opportunity to see “what’s new” in technology in the various AME Pathways. If you are using a new tech tool in your classroom or work place or are making an innovative use of a not so new tool, this is your opportunity to share it with AME teachers and administrators across the state. Presentations must have a “hands-on” component and be useful across platforms.
Presentations in this strand will provide attendees an opportunity to
1. acquire hands-on experience with AME tech tools, and
2. explore how they are applied in industry Career-Areas via relevant, industry authentic classroom projects.
Product and Pathway Certification (60 minutes)
Changes to new Perkins guidelines are placing greater emphasis on Pathway Certification to qualify for funding. In the next 3 years, CDE will be working with local Education Agencies (you), industry partners, and CDE staff to develop Pathway Certification in each of the AME Pathways and/or Career-Areas (sub-pathways). Also, there are already a variety of product certifications available in the AME Sector (Final-cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Certiport, Toonboom, etc.).
Presentations in this strand will provide hands-on opportunities to
1. explore the existing product certification options, and/or
2. share ideas and strategies to create authentic pathway assessment in collaboration with Industry partners.
Pathway Portfolios, Marketing, and Job Preparation (60 minutes)
The goal in CTE AME is to prepare students for the workplace, in addition to preparing students for post-secondary instruction. While there is significant cross-over, the focus of presentations in this strand will be on professional, rather than academic, “readiness.”
Presentations in this strand will focus on sharing strategies for creating an industry authentic portfolio, self-marketing plan, and authentic job skills. (At the 2017 Statewide AME Industry Advisory meeting, the unanimous opinion of the industry representatives was, “students do not know how to ‘market’ themselves.”)
Presentations in this strand will provide hands-on opportunities to examine, discuss, and contribute to
1. a Pathway or Career-Area-specific portfolio, a personal marketing unit, and/or entrepreneurship component, developed by you and your industry partners; or
2. an internship program and/or jury (portfolio and job interview) system developed by you and your industry partners.

AME Pathway Job-Alike Conversations (75 minutes)
For each of the past three years, attendees have requested an opportunity to meet and share with teachers who “teach what I teach.” Last year the institute provided a series of job-alike breakout sessions for educators and industry professionals to share ideas and strategies that have proven successful in their particular pathway. Comments about the sessions from attendees included “useful but too short” or “lacking in organizational structure.” This has led the institute organizers to provide an expanded time frame and a more specific structure that allows time for sharing of best practice and informal interaction around best practice (what is working).
A Job-Alike Facilitator must be a teacher in the Career-Area and be able to
1. be knowledgeable about lessons and instructional units that include authentic industry practices;
2. be knowledgeable about the Industry Pathway and Career-Area;
3. skillfully encourage participation of all attendees; and
4. establish an online space for the participants to share their ideas and lessons.
Please fill out the application if you are interested in
1. facilitating a job-alike conversation in one of the following job-alike areas:
Film and Video Production
Performing Arts – One Job-alike group for each discipline: Music, Dance, and Theatre performance
